Principal’s Message

Principal Tormey brings over 21 years of educational leadership and a passion for student success, driving excellence and innovation throughout our school.

Dear Students, Families, and Community Members, Principal, Kristen Tormey

Welcome to Winding Waters K-8, home of the Yellow Jackets! We are thrilled to have you as part of our growing and vibrant learning community. Whether you are returning or joining us for the first time, you are an important part of our Winding Waters family.

At Winding Waters, we take pride in offering a one-of-a-kind K-8 experience that prepares students for future success while nurturing curiosity, creativity, and confidence. Our partnership with our Vespa neighbor, Weeki Wachee High School, provides our students with unique opportunities to explore advanced (high school) courses, giving them a head start toward their academic and career goals.

Our campus is home to diverse and dynamic programs designed to meet every student’s interests and strengths. From Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways to STEM and engineering, our students engage in real-world problem-solving and hands-on learning that inspires innovation. Our award-winning Fine Arts programs—including band, chorus, guitar, and art—allow students to express themselves creatively and shine through performance and visual expression. In addition, our athletic programs foster teamwork, perseverance, and school spirit, while organizations like FFEA (Future Florida Educators of America) empower students to lead, serve, and inspire others.

At the heart of all we do is our HOUSE System, grounded in the values of P.R.I.D.E.:

  • P – Positivity
  • R – Respect
  • I – Inspiration
  • D – Determination
  • E – Engagement

Our goal is to create a positive climate and culture where every student and family feels a deep sense of belonging and connection. At Winding Waters, we believe that when students feel valued and supported, they can achieve anything. Together, we celebrate individuality while growing as one school, one community, one family.

We look forward to a year filled with growth, discovery, and success. Thank you for being an essential part of what makes Winding Waters K-8 such a special place to learn and grow.

With PRIDE,
Kristen Tormey
